:: Introduction

The Joint Exchange Development Initiative (JEDI 1) workshop was the first in a series of meetings funded by the Royal Society-NRF bilateral exchange program held 8-11 April 2008. The JEDI workshops facilitate direct exchange of skills and expertise in cosmology by bringing students, post-docs and staff together in an informal but intense research environment to tackle unsolved cosmology problems.

The workshops are flexible but are guided by the aims and objectives of the Royal Society - NRF bilateral:

  • Forge new research collaborations
  • Facilitate skills transfer and development
  • Produce excellent research in the field of Dark Energy and Observational Cosmology.

The format of JEDI 1 consisted of short talks and structured small working groups on selected projects (see the program). This format has proved very successful in the past and again proved very successful.

Participants were invited to suggest topics/projects that they lead during and after the Workshop. Research on several of the projects is on-going and is expected to lead to published research articles.
